Malaga airport has a system, called the Entry/Exit System, to speed up passport control for non-EU citizens.
The system comprises of a set of machines that scan passports, take photos and record fingerprints.
Once the process is complete, you will be instructed to proceed to the E Gates, where your passport will be scanned again, with your biometric details already in the system.
Malaga airport hopes that, with the entry-exit system and E-gates, delays at passport control will be minimised. The system works in both directions, entry and exit.
For UK citizens, you need to repeat the process on every visit. Residents with a TIE card must have it on their person and go straight to the E gates, bypassing the exit entry system.
